The
John Stallworth Foundation
The John Stallworth
Foundation was created by Professional Football Hall of Fame member
John Stallworth in 1980, halfway through his 14 year football career
with the Pittsburgh Steelers, as a personal commitment to give back
to the community and his alma mater, Alabama A&M University.
The Foundation (JSF)
offers annual tuition assistance for academically gifted freshman selected
from an applicant pool of national scholars. Scholarship recipients
are carefully screened according to criteria outlined in the scholarship
application package and selected
by the JSF Board of Directors. The Foundation is independently operated
by its Board of Directors as a non-profit organization (501-c-3) and
our federal identification number 63 -1038886.
Since its inception,
the Foundation has awarded 73 scholarship awards thereby allowing numerous
students to realize their dream of obtaining a college education. During
the 2008/2009 academic year, the Foundation funded 11 student scholarships.
Due to the continued success of the John Stallworth Celebrity Golf Tournament,
each year the Foundation provides a minimum of four annual academic
scholarships, and one scholarship for a fifth-year athlete who has lost
his/her athletic eligibility and needs to attend classes for a fifth
year to complete their degree. To be considered for funding, students
are required to meet or exceed the minimum academic standards outlined
in the scholarship application package. Scholarship recipients must
have served in youth leadership, community and/or faith-based service
roles and have clearly defined long-term goals. Recipients of the four-year
scholarship awards are required to maintain high academic standards
to continue receiving scholarship assistance.
